Judges 6:16 (ESV)

And the Lord said to him, "But I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man."

Talk About It

Sometimes we might feel small or not very strong, just like Gideon did. When God called Gideon, Gideon felt weak and afraid; he didn't think he was important or strong enough to help his people. But God saw Gideon differently. God called him a "mighty warrior" and promised to be with him. God's strength is much bigger than ours, and He never leaves us alone when we face big or scary things. God gave Gideon a special job, and even though Gideon was afraid, God promised to be with him every step of the way. That means Gideon didn't have to rely on his own strength—he could trust God instead! In our lives, we sometimes feel weak too, maybe when we have a hard job or feel nervous. But God says to each of us, "I will be with you." When God is with us, we don't have to be afraid! We can do hard things because God is strong and never leaves His children alone.

For Parents to Explain

Dear God, thank You for being with us when we feel weak or nervous. Help us remember that Your strength is bigger than our fears. Amen.

Family Activities

Strength in Weakness

  1. As a family, talk about a time when you each felt weak, scared, or unsure.
  2. Share how you got through that time or who helped you.
  3. Pray for God’s strength for any current challenges you are facing.
  4. Encourage each other throughout the week by reminding one another, "God is with you!"

Mighty Warrior Shield

  1. Each person draws and colors a shield on a piece of paper.
  2. On the shield, write or draw pictures of things that make you feel afraid or weak.
  3. Around the edge of the shield, write "God is with me!" and decorate with bright colors.
  4. Hang your shield somewhere you’ll see it to remind you of God’s protection.

Family Prayer

Now, take turns asking God to help you trust Him when you feel scared or small this week.
